We are working with a friendly and down-to-earth UHNW couple in North London to assist in hiring a full-time, live-out Houseman/Maintenance professional. The family are considering two options for their household support: recruiting a Housekeeper/Cook and Houseman couple together or engaging a live-in Housekeeper/Cook alongside a separate, locally based Houseman. This role reflects the latter option.
The couple reside in a beautifully renovated four-storey property featuring four bedrooms, a cinema room, generous living spaces, and a separate summer house equipped with a sauna, gym, and pool. The household is supported by a live-in Housekeeper/Cook, a gardener, a part-time cleaner, a part-time maintenance person, and an Executive Assistant. Working closely alongside the Housekeeper/Cook and the part-time maintenance person, the Houseman will take the lead on the practical, maintenance, and driving side of the household, ensuring the property, grounds, vehicles, and technology are all kept running smoothly.
The couple also own a second home on the South West coast, and occasional travel will be required to prepare and maintain the property ahead of family visits. This is a live-out position, suited to a candidate already based in or within easy commuting distance of North London.
Candidates MUST have the right to live and work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general upkeep, presentation, and safe running of the property’s exterior, grounds, and leisure facilities
- Care for and maintain the summer house, pool, gym, greenhouse, and external areas
- Undertake DIY tasks and basic repairs, coordinating with tradespeople and contractors as required
- Conduct regular full-house and grounds reviews, reporting on any maintenance needs and carrying out monthly utility meter readings
- Maintain and troubleshoot household technology, including AV, smart home, and security systems, liaising with specialist providers where required
- Undertake light driving duties, including errands, deliveries, and transporting the principals as needed
- Maintain and care for the household vehicle(s), arranging servicing, repairs, and MOTs as required
- Travel to the family’s second property on the South West coast to oversee upkeep and prepare for family arrivals
- Coordinate gardeners, cleaners, and other ad hoc staff and contractors
- Support with house- and pet-sitting when the Principals are away, and help prepare the property ahead of family gatherings and events
- Assist the Housekeeper/Cook with occasional errands, deliveries, and heavier household tasks
- Always maintain discretion and confidentiality
Ideal Candidate
- MUST have the right to live and work in the UK
- Previous experience as a Houseman, Maintenance professional, or in a similar role within a private household
- Practical and hands-on, with confidence in DIY, basic repairs, and general property upkeep
- Comfortable with household technology, AV equipment, and smart home systems
- Confident, safe driver with a clean UK driving licence
- Comfortable with animals (a small dog and two cats)
- Discreet, trustworthy, and committed to long-term employment
- Proactive and able to work independently as well as alongside the wider household team
- Flexible, adaptable, and well presented, with a positive, can-do attitude and strong communication skills
- Only candidates with a proven track record of longevity in their previous roles will be considered.
Package
- Working schedule: 5 days a week, typically 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (40 hours per week, including a 1-hour unpaid lunch break)
- Flexibility required for occasional weekend work, with days off in lieu
- 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
- Annual discretionary bonus
- 4% employer pension contribution

- Probationary period: 3 months (2 weeks’ notice), thereafter 2 months’ notice
- DBS check, three verbal references, and signed NDA required
- Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 gross per annum, depending on experience
