Building a Private Island Team: Four Months, Five Countries and One Extraordinary Project
Building a Private Island Team: Four Months, Five Countries and One Extraordinary Project
Over the past four months, Silver Swan Recruitment has been leading one of the most ambitious and rewarding hospitality recruitment projects in our company’s history.
Working exclusively on behalf of a returning VVIP client in the Middle East, we were entrusted with building the international hospitality team for a brand-new private island development. This highly confidential project has been designed to operate to exceptional hospitality standards for the use of the principal, family members and distinguished guests.
In total, the island will be supported by approximately 80 staff, including 50 local hires and 30 international hospitality professionals recruited exclusively through Silver Swan Recruitment.
Whilst we are unable to share every detail, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the scale of the recruitment campaign and the incredible effort that has taken place behind the scenes.
A Global Search for Exceptional Talent
From the outset, we knew this would require an international search unlike any other.
The client was seeking individuals with experience gained within the world’s leading luxury hotels and resorts. Every candidate needed to demonstrate not only exceptional hospitality standards, but also the discretion, adaptability and professionalism required to succeed within a private VVIP environment.
Over the course of the project, more than 4,000 applications were received across our channels, whilst our team also conducted a highly targeted global search, sending well over 1,000 personalised LinkedIn outreach messages to hospitality professionals working within some of the world’s most prestigious luxury hotels and resorts. More than 300 carefully selected candidates were ultimately submitted to the client.
Unlike many recruitment agencies that rely heavily on paid job boards, our approach focused on proactive headhunting, industry relationships and direct engagement with exceptional hospitality professionals around the world. This allowed us to identify and attract candidates who may never have actively applied for the opportunity themselves.
This was never a volume exercise.
Whilst thousands of applications were received, our focus remained firmly on quality rather than quantity. Every candidate submitted to the client had proven experience within luxury hospitality, five-star resorts or ultra-luxury environments, ensuring an exceptionally high-calibre shortlist throughout the process.
Five Countries, Seven Interview Days
The interview process quickly evolved into a truly international operation.
In addition to conducting well over 100 online interviews, Silver Swan organised more than 100 face-to-face interviews across five countries.
Dedicated interview days were arranged in Bali, the Philippines, the Maldives, Paris and London, allowing the client to meet shortlisted candidates personally and ensuring every individual was assessed beyond their CV.
One of the most impressive parts of the project saw our Managing Director, Philippa Smith, travel alongside the client between Bali, the Philippines and the Maldives within just five days to conduct interviews and oversee the recruitment process firsthand.

The commitment shown by everyone involved reflected the importance and prestige of the opportunity.
Building a Team From the Ground Up
The project required recruitment across a wide range of leadership and operational hospitality positions, including:
- General Manager
- Guest Experience Manager
- Executive Housekeeper
- Housekeeping Supervisors
- Spa Manager
- Training & Quality Manager
- Head Butlers
- Hostesses
- Waitresses
Each role required a bespoke search strategy, extensive screening, multiple interview stages and ongoing collaboration with the client to ensure the right balance of experience, personality and cultural fit.
As with any private environment, technical capability was only one part of the equation. Character, discretion and long-term suitability were equally important considerations throughout the process.
A Team Effort
Projects of this scale are never delivered by one person.
This achievement is the result of months of dedication from the entire Silver Swan Recruitment team.
Our Managing Director, Philippa Smith, has led the project from the beginning, managing client relationships, international interview days and the overall recruitment strategy.
Ana, Karen, Anita and Charlotte have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, sourcing candidates from across the globe, conducting interviews, coordinating logistics, managing communications and ensuring every stage of the process ran seamlessly.
Collectively, the team invested hundreds of hours into identifying, engaging and supporting candidates throughout this journey.
Entering the Final Stages
We are delighted to confirm that the General Manager position has now been successfully filled.
A key part of this recruitment process has been the client’s commitment to meeting every shortlisted candidate in person. All candidates progressed through two interview stages — an initial online interview followed by a face-to-face interview with the client at one of our dedicated international interview days.
No candidate was hired without meeting the client personally, which required significant commitment from candidates who travelled internationally to attend interviews across multiple countries.
We are pleased to confirm that all interviews have now been completed and the client is currently making their final selections for the remaining key appointments, including:
- Guest Experience Manager
- Executive Housekeeper
- Housekeeping Supervisors
- Spa Manager
- Training & Quality Manager
- Head Butlers
- Hostesses
- Waitresses
Offers for all remaining roles are expected to be made imminently, and we look forward to supporting both the client and successful candidates through the final stages of the process.

For us, this project has never just been about filling positions.
It has been about creating opportunities, changing lives and bringing together a team capable of delivering world-class hospitality within one of the most unique environments we have ever recruited for.
By the time the project is complete, approximately 80 people will have the opportunity to be part of something truly special.
For Silver Swan Recruitment, it has been a privilege to play a role in building that team from the ground up, and we look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
