Silver Swan is currently seeking an experienced First Engineer to join a newly built 50m private yacht, currently under construction in Livorno/Italy. 

The yacht is expected to be completed by January 2025, then kept in Mediterranean waters for 6-12 months, before being moved to Dubai.
The First Engineer will ideally start around August (although an earlier start can be discussed), and will conduct regular visits to the shipyard, with the Captain, to familiarise themselves with the vessel. 

The successful candidate has to have experience as First/Chief Engineer Engineer on yachts of this same size (50m) or larger – non negotiable.
This client places great emphasis on candidate's longevity with previous employers.

Flexibility, loyalty, great organisation and communication skills are paramount.
Besides fluency in English, which is essential, Italian speakers who also have an established network of local vendors/suppliers will hold a great advantage. 
The Fisrt Engineer, in fact, will assist with the necessary purchase of equipment/materials during the construction phase.
Candidates who are already located in Italy would be preferred.

EU passport holders are preferred, for operational reasons. However, Asian candidates will be considered too.

START DATE: August 2024

THIS IS NOT A ROTATIONAL ROLE. 
 
Responsibilities:

– Familiarising yourself with the vessel, with regular trips to the shipyard, in Livorno
– Assisting with the purchase of equipment/materials
– Taking operational (day-to-day) command of the engineering team
– Supervising engineering tasks and allocating work as appropriate 
– Managing the admin necessary on board a very large yacht.
– Legal and regulatory compliance

 
Ideal candidate:

– Experience in yacht size equivalent (50m) or bigger (a must)
– Excellent communication and organisational skills  
– Excellent leadership mindset and skills
– Safe and competent navigational and ship handling skills 
– Ability to remain calm and give directions in an emergency situation
– Extensive experience in the Mediterranean and European waters
– Language requirements: English (essential), Italian (an advantage)
– Ideally, located in Italy already
– Network of local trusted vendors/suppliers
– STCW fully updated 
– PDSD Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
– Discretion & flexibility is paramount

Package:

– Salary ranging from EUR 6,500/8,000/month, DOE 
– 12 months contract, renewable.
